Dr. Richard J. Malfatti, Senior Advisor to Professional Advisory Network (PAN)

Dr. Rich Malfatti has virtually held every administrative position from assistant principal to superintendent in his 49-year career.  Most recently he was Interim Superintendent at Coast USD in Cambria. He has worked in medium sized school districts and in small rural school districts. He has been an Adjunct Professor teaching graduate level courses at Pepperdine University, CSU Northridge and Concordia University since 2003.

Dr. Malfatti earned a bachelor’s degree in English at the University of San Francisco and a master’s degree in Educational Administration from CSU San Francisco.  He received a doctoral degree from UC Santa Barbara in Educational Policy. A San Francisco native, he moved to southern California in 1970 after teaching high school English for five years to pursue his administrative career.

Dr, Malfatti is active in ACSA and CALSA. He was President of ACSA Region 13 on two separate occasions in his career and has served on the ACSA State Board of Directors from 1989 – 1992 as well various state committees. He was Chairperson of the ACSA Small School District Committee.  He has been a CALSA member since 2005 and has been a mentor to four CALSA protégés. He served as Interim Executive Director of CALSA from August, 2012 to April, 2013   His hobbies include golf, softball, working out, reading and spending time with his grandchildren.
