New Achievement and Innovation director named for NVUSD
(NAPA, Calif-) David Damico, the director of Educational Technology and Support Services at Sweetwater Union High School District in Chula Vista, has been named executive director of Achievement and Innovation for NVUSD, starting July 1, 2016. He will succeed Ivan Chaidez, who has accepted a position at Novato Unified School District. Damico’s appointment was approved at last night’s meeting of the NVUSD Board of Education.
“David’s experiences in elementary, middle and high school environments, as well as his deep understanding of educational technology issues and passion for innovation, creates a nice mix of perspectives that will fit in very well at NVUSD,” said Superintendent Patrick Sweeney. “This position is pivotal in setting and managing a vision for how we deliver instruction to our 18,000 students.”
As director, Damico will oversee teaching, learning and student services, including curriculum, professional development for teachers, innovation initiatives and instructional practices, particularly for students and classrooms in the 21st century. During his 19 years in education, Damico has been a teacher and principal in traditional schools, and launched an e-learning academy in southern California. Most recently, at Sweetwater, he was responsible for IT infrastructure, network, telecommunications and operations for than 50,000 students, teachers and administrators.
“I am excited to bring my energy and enthusiasm for innovation and achievement to Napa Valley Unified School District,” Damico said. “I can’t wait to work with the wonderful educators, students and families at NVUSD.”
Damico has a B.A. in physical education from San Diego State University; a master’s degree in Pastoral Care and Counseling from University of San Diego; a teaching credential from Chapman University and an administrative services credential from National University. He and his wife, Kellie, will relocate to Napa this summer.
